AYRA's leadership is broken into two groups: the Board of Directors and the Leadership Council. The Board of Directors has responsibility for the business operations of AYRA Baseball. The Leadership Council has responsibility for running the leagues and programs offered by AYRA.

Here's a little bit of information about the members of the Board of Directors and the Leadership Council. We feel it's important to get to know a little more about us than an email address and phone number.

Board of Directors

Curt Bathras, President
Curt Bathras

Curt has been active with AYRA since 2003. He started with AYRA as an assistant coach for his son's team. The following year he moved into the head coaching position. Curt quickly decided he wanted to become a more active member of AYRA and became the Pioneer 2 League Commissioner in 2006. After two years in that role, he took over the reigns as the International League Commissioner. In the Spring of 2008 he was elected as the new President of AYRA and succeeds Bill Winder after his many years of dedicated service. Curt continues to coach his son and daughter in AYRA.

Curt started playing organized baseball when he was 7 years old with the GGB Athletic Organization in Glen Burnie, MD. He continued playing baseball throughout his childhood, up through high school. He has coached baseball for a wide range of age groups. He also plays men's slow pitch softball to get his fill of playing the game. He is a die-hard Baltimore Orioles fan and is patiently waiting for the O's to once again make it to the playoffs. Curt is an ACEP certified baseball coach and lives in the Village of Hickory Ridge in Columbia with his wife, Susan, son, Noah, and daughter, Bryce.

Mike Klatzkin, Treasurer
Mike Klatzkin

Mike has been active with AYRA since 2006, first as an Assistant Coach and the next year as a Manager for both the Spring and Fall Seasons in the National League. He joined the AYRA Board in February 2008 and assumed the role of National League Commissioner for the Spring 2008 Season. He is also the new Treasurer of AYRA.

Mike can't remember not playing baseball, but has been assured by his mother that it began in the Sykesville Little League as soon as they would have him. He played through the leagues there and on to Pony & Babe Ruth League in the Sykesville area. He played high school ball at South Carroll High School where he also played football.

After practice, he has been known to put on a clinic or two that serve to keep the breeze in the air as well as the fire in his heart. Mike is an ACEP certified baseball coach, is a practicing CPA, and lives in the Village of Hickory Ridge with his wife and two sons.

scott regan, Vice President
scott regan

Scott has been a member of AYRA since 1989. He started as a dad working the score book and like most others, was a little hesitant to step up to coach. After a couple of years he took the giant leap of faith and was an assistant coach for four years. He then moved up to run teams as a head coach for seven years, coaching full time travel teams through 18 & under.

In 2005, he was fortunate enough to be recognized by the Montgomery County Baseball Association as their Coach of the Year in the senior division. Scott was also the assistant J.V. coach at Hammond High in 2001 and 2002.

Since leaving coaching, Scott has worked on educating other coaches by organizing coaches clinics, adopting an AYRA Minimum Required Teachings Program for all age levels, working with Coach Lerner of Hammond High in making a pitching video for players and coaches, and is currently lobbying anyone that will listen that the "Mike Epstein Hitting Method" is a far superior hitting method than any other method he has seen. Says Scott, "If it's good enough for 90% of ALL Hall of Famers in Cooperstown, it's certainly good enough for AYRA!"

Vandy Hill, Secretary
Vandy Hill

Vandy has coached his son in youth football, basketball, and baseball for the past 4 years. He began playing basketball at an early age and led his high school team to the championship two years in a row. He has attended the Adidas Midsouth Coaches Clinic. Vandy is a University of Memphis Alumni. He also worked with other college coaches in conducting clinics. Vandy recently moved to Maryland and immediately got involved in the AYRA organization. This year, AYRA will start a spring full-time travel in the 12U division of MABA with Barry as the skipper.

More comfortable with a hockey stick than a baseball bat, he has still managed to not hurt himself too seriously over the last 20 years in an APL softball league. His coach claims his best position is at the grill.
