The Pioneer 2 League is AYRA's clinic baseball league. It is specifically designed to get players comfortable with a wide range of facets of the game of baseball including throwing, fielding, catching, batting, base running, and the general rules of the game. Children aged 7 and 8 years old may participate in this league. The most important focus of Pioneer 2 is understanding the game and fun.
A player participating in Pioneer 2 can expect to be on a team that numbers 10 to 12 players. This is the first league where players are exposed to the position of catcher. In addition, there is a pitcher, but the player only fields the pitcher's position. The coach pitches for his/her own team. Players can strike out in this league, but are given ample opportunity to choose a good pitch at which to swing. There are no walks. This is the first league where outs count. A side of an inning is complete when either the defensive team gets three outs or the offensive team scores four runs, whichever comes first.
